Step 4: Emergency Maintenance

Emergency maintenance arises when one or more elements of the bridge have been heavily and critically damaged, and safety of the traffic using the bridge is at stake or emergency repair of one or more parts are required, followed by major maintenance. Emergency maintenance works shall be carried out with load restrictions and traffic signs in place to ensure safety of the traffic. Emergency works include repair, rehabilitation or new construction of check dams etc. Emergency maintenance shall be assessed by special inspection. Once emergency measures are in place and traffic is flowing, the emergency works shall be designed by procuring consultants and undertaken by construction works implemented through the procuring procedures for civil works, refer ▬►Program Appraisal Document BIMP Table 3.3: Maintenance Classification and Definitions, Page 40, see an example of ARMP
